Utd sign Blackburns Jones

Big things lie ahead

Blackburn defender Phil Jones is on his way to Manchester Utd. after the two clubs agreed a £17m deal.

The england under 21 player also had offers from Arsenal and Liverpool, the club he was expected to join, but has instead decided to go to Manchester Utd. Jones only made his premier league debut in March last year but has made a big impact since and being a regular in the Blackburn defence alongside Samba.

Jones is travelling to the U-21 Euero Championship with England this summer. It will not be easy for Jones to break in to the Utd. squad as they already have a brilliant pairing of Ferdinand and Vidic as well as Chris Smalling and Johnny Evans who are all cometing for places. Jones was influencial in keeping Blackburn in the premier league this season.

Jones started his career at Blackburn and stayed there until now. United striker Wayne Rooney reacted to the news by writing on Twitter: "Phil Jones is a good young English player. One of the toughest defenders I played against last season. Can play midfield too."

Jones made 35 appearances for Blackburn but didn't score once for the club.
Rovers striker Jason Roberts said losing Jones would be a big blow to the club.
"He has been fantastic for us since he has come into the team but how do you stop someone going to Man Utd?" Roberts told BBC Radio 5 live.
